BEACHMAN
Hand-assembled e-bikes and motorcycles bring 1960s moped and motorcycle culture to the modern Canadian commute.
Founded in 2019 following a chance encounter at a Toronto coffee shop, Beachman is a testament to what happens when iconic retro aesthetics meet Canadian industrial grit. Co-founders Ben Taylor (a lifestyle brand visionary) and Steve Payne (a veteran audio engineer and custom bike builder) combined their talents to build an electric bike that captured the soul of a vintage café racer.
Starting with their prototype, “Bike Zero” (a modified 1979 Kawasaki with a seat made from a skateboard), Beachman has evolved into a full-scale electric vehicle manufacturer. Based in Toronto’s West End, the company now operates its own factory where every bike is hand-assembled from a blank frame. Their flagship model, the ‘64 E-Bike, offers the rugged look of a 1960s motorcycle but is street-legal as a bicycle, allowing riders to “boot around” the city with ease. With their recent automaker certification, Beachman is now expanding into light motorcycles and mopeds, ensuring that the future of Canadian transit looks—and feels—timeless.
