Canadian Artisans: The Handcrafted Home and Giftware Edit
Featuring the independent studios and heritage workshops crafting unique paper products, pottery, home accents and hand-painted gems.
Fogo Island Workshops
Born from the rugged landscapes of Newfoundland, this community-owned social business fosters resilience through a circular economy—blending traditional island craftsmanship with contemporary global design.
Founded by eighth-generation Fogo Islanders Zita, Alan, and Anthony Cobb under the parent charity Shorefast, the workshops partner local woodworkers and artisans with international designers. This collaboration breathes new life into the island’s boat-building and furniture-making traditions, resulting in contemporary pieces that speak a modern design language while remaining deeply rooted in the “Place” they were made.
Every object produced—from the iconic Bertha Chair to hand-stitched quilts—comes with an “Economic Nutrition” label, a transparency tool that shows exactly where your money goes. As a circular business, 100% of operating surpluses are reinvested into the Shorefast charity to support community programs, heritage preservation, and environmental stewardship. When you bring a piece of Fogo Island into your home, you aren’t just buying furniture; you are investing in the survival and prosperity of a resilient Canadian community.
